Nearly all burn patients given a human skin substitute avoided painful grafts of their own skin and saw their wounds close within three months, according to Stratatech Corp., the Madison company that developed the product.
In a proof-of-concept clinical trial of StrataGraft, made from skin cells similar to stem cells, 19 of 20 burn patients avoided the need for painful autograft surgeries, the company said in a news release.
