Heroin-linked deaths still up in Dane County as opiate epidemic persists

The number of heroin-related deaths in Dane County this year has surpassed last year's total, indicating that what officials have called an opiate epidemic has not abated. The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed 21 heroin-related deaths — a number likely to grow with the results of pending toxicology tests — compared to 20 last year.
