Man gets 12 years in prison for near-fatal cut of girlfriend's throat

A man who cut his girlfriend's throat with a knife, leaving her needing 62 stitches and centimeters from having a fatal cut, was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison. Robert Ruffin, 44, of Madison, said he was in the bathroom of the East Side apartment he shared with Mariah Flemming on July 8, 2011, when she fell while carrying a glass bowl, which shattered and cut her across the neck.
