Law change means man may not go to prison for child porn while another does

In one courtroom Monday afternoon, a Dane County judge sent a former UW-Madison doctoral candidate to prison for three years for possessing child pornography, because a recent state law said she had to. In a courtroom next door, an Iraq War veteran who also possessed child pornography — but did so only about two weeks before the new law took effect — might not go to prison after pleading guilty to 10 counts of possessing child pornography.
