Alleged shoplifter arrested after almost hitting officer with car, police say

A shoplifter who almost hit a Madison police officer with his car was arrested by the officer and a retired police detective at East Towne Mall on Friday, Madison police reported. Nicholas Coplien, 17, of McFarland, was tentatively charged with retail theft and resisting a police officer, according to a police news release. Full Story: Madison.com
